Gear Review: Huk Brewster

What is it?

Huk Brewster

What sets it apart?

Not every fishing trip requires high-tech protection from harsh conditions. Let’s be honest, we’d all prefer those mild mornings when light pants and a long sleeve t-shirt fit the bill. Flip-flops are one option, but sunburn, biting insects and hook exposure make lightweight enclosed footwear a better choice. Huk’s Brewster offer a good option for this role, while proving a stylish look that’ll work well for that casual dinner at day’s end.

How do I use it?

Billed as a wear-anywhere shoe, the Brewster is made with a comfortable canvas textile upper, an EVA footbed and a performance rubber, high-friction GripX Traction outsole. These elements create a shoe that’ll keep you upright and stable all day, while minimizing the aching and throbbing we often feel after long hours on the dogs. The Brewster’s slip-on style with collapsible heel enhances the casual feel, while the non-marking sole keeps those scuffs at bay. With three colors, the Brewster is available in sizes 7-13.

Angler’s insight:

Huk has effectively balanced lightweight materials with sturdy design for a comfortable shoe that fits even sasquatch-level feet like mine right out of the box. I particularly like double-stitched seams and the thick foam sole that carries a firm support all the way to the toe. Also, vent ports on the inner edge include a tiny screen filter that keeps dirt and debris on the outside, while maintaining a foot-cooling air flow.
