Gear Review: Olight Oclip 2

What is it?

Olight Oclip 2

What sets it apart?

Olight knocked it out of the park with a versatile, rechargeable lighting option that’s ideal for a variety of outdoor activities. A true mighty mite, the compact Oclip 2 is small enough for pocket carry between uses, and whether you clip it to a belt, waistbands, jacket pocket or a cap brim, this innovative design solves a common mounted lighting drawback — directional limitation. Olight fixed this by giving the Oclip 2 a dual-axis design with a head that tilts up to 115 degrees and a clip that rotates 360 degrees. No more adjusting your posture to fit the beam. Mount it once and adjust the angle to suit your needs. The magnetic base offers stationary positioning on metal surfaces, and if you need a traditional handheld flashlight application, tilt the Oclip 2’s head 90 degrees and aim as you’d like.

How do I use it?

Offered in Pro and Ultra models, the Oclip 2 features an ample on/off button conveniently located on the side. An easily accessible thumb dial surrounding the button operates a trio of task beams in one compact head. Both models offer flood, spot and red lights, with the Ultra also offering an industry-first red/UV combo emitter. Olight built these rugged devices with IP66 protection against dust and liquid intrusion and 2-meter drop resistance. A nice feature is the hinged, rigid USB-C charging port cover that’s sturdier than the soft, floppy flanges you see on many charging ports.

The Oclip 2 Pro comes in classic black, high-visibility orange and tidal blue, while the Oclip 2 Ultra comes in olive green, onyx black and amber orange.

Angler’s insight:

Whether you’re walking through a dark boat ramp parking lot, prepping tackle in the predawn or late evening hours or signaling for assistance with the strobe function, Olight has you covered. I’ve been wearing the Oclip on my belt for road safety during early morning walks and for nighttime dog business when hands-free illumination is very helpful.

For night fishing, the Oclip’s multidirectional versatility allows you to light up any area of the boat, bank, pier or bridge. And for alligator-prone areas, walking to your fishing spot while “shining” for lizard eyes eliminates unexpected surprises.
