Gear Review: SPRO Blade and Thumper Spinnerbaits

WHAT IS IT?

SPRO Blade and Thumper Spinnerbaits

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Built for the enticing action and vibration that triggers strikes, SPRO’s new Blade Spinnerbait sports gold and nickel-plated willow-leaf blades that turn smoothly on ball bearing swivels. Ideal for fishing through submerged grass and shallow cover, this bait performs well in clear or stained water.

Made for fishing around hard cover like rock and wood, SPRO’s Thumper spinnerbait is designed to mimic forage fish vibrations by utilizing hard-thumping custom Colorado and Indiana blades.

HOW DO I USE IT?

With a narrow head shape designed for navigating aquatic vegetation, the Blade model allows you to ideally match water conditions with gold, nickel and painted blades. The Thumper features a fuller head design that can handle hard cover impact. Available in six color patterns and 3/8- and 1/2-ounce sizes, both of these baits include SPRO’s signature Mean Eyes. SPRO added a user-friendly feature — sizes printed on the blades. This will facilitate bait selection when the bite is raging and seconds matter.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

One of the key elements for SPRO’s new Blade and Thumper spinnerbaits is a 4/0 Gamakatsu Nano Alpha coated hook, which significantly reduces resistance, increases hook penetration and ultimately yields better hookups. This is always a benefit, but when fish are just swiping at a bait, this sticky sharp hook tends to snare more of the indecisive ones. SPRO also recently introduced the Kickback Trailer, a twin-tail design with a dense body section for securely threading onto your spinnerbait hook and slender, ribbed legs that enhance the backside action.
