Gear Review: Huk Tournament Jacket and Bib

WHAT IS IT?

Huk Tournament Jacket and Bib

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Recognizing that competitive fishing often requires anglers to compete in less-than-ideal conditions, Huk designed a comfortable and functionally efficient jacket that’ll stand up to wind and water with a breathable construction. Made of 100% Polyester, the Jacket offers a generous 20k/15k windproof/waterproof rating. Key features include fully taped seams, a storm flap, covered zippered chest pocket, covered flap hand pockets and adjustable hood, hem and cuffs.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Made of the same material, the Tournament Jacket’s matching bib features elastic adjustable shoulder straps, adjustable waist, internal mesh chest, front cargo pockets, plier pockets, adjustable leg cuffs and waterproof leg zippers. Reflective Huk Fishing logos on the jacket’s sleeves, chest and the bib legs enhance low-light visibility. The jacket is Huk blue and the bib is volcanic ash. Both come in sizes S-XXXL.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

The term “waterproof” can be confusing, but here’s the upshot: A completely waterproof jacket will feel like you’re wearing a plastic trash bag, as your internal heat generates perspiration that cannot escape. The ideal construction uses a waterproof/breathable membrane with holes too small to allow water molecules to enter, but just large enough to allow water vapor to exit. The Huk Tournament Jacket and Bib’s 15k rating blocks water in moderate rains, while the wind rating of 20K is sufficient for the level of wind most anglers would consider fishable.
