Gear Review: Witch Doctor Kahuna Casting Rod

What is it?

Witch Doctor Kahuna Custom S-Glass Casting Rod

What sets it apart?

Addressing the tournament bass angler’s need for a highly specific crankbait rod, Witch Doctor created its Kahuna Custom S-Glass Casting Rod with a proprietary graphite and S Glass construction that features a 95 percent glass blank with an ultra-thin wall thickness. The process yields a blank as straight as graphite, but with strength comparable to E-glass. The end result is a lightweight, powerful rod that you won’t mind holding for a full day of fishing.

How do I use it?

Made in the USA and available in seven different models ranging from 7 foot to 7 foot, 10 inches and Medium Power, Medium Fast Action to Xtra-Heavy Power, Medium Fast Action. Each model includes a graphite woven X pattern in the butt section for max power to the rod, while a soft tip keeps the form right for cranking. A moderate action tip was designed for launching long casts, even with hefty deep divers.

Angler’s insight:

In addition to providing the cranking-friendly physics, Witch Doctor bolsters your fish-fighting ability with an EVA/composite grip for ultimate control, a large fighting butt for increased leverage and an ALPS Double Locking Reel Seat to keep everything in place during the fight. This looks to be a rod that can easily reach beyond its intended cranking purpose to also serve several other applications from vibrating swim jigs to spinnerbaits.
