Sneak Peek: Abu Garcia Revo SX SP

For many years, Abu Garcia has produced rods and reels that have been proven to stand the test of time and work flawlessly in the most crucial situations. The Abu Garcia Revo SX SP spinning reel that was released at ICAST this year is next in line and will be a reliable reel for years to come.

The Revo SX SP Reels feature Asymmetrical X-Craftic body designs to deliver a more compact body that is constructed of premium aluminum to ensure unwavering strength and durability. Additionally, they boast V-Rotor and spool designs for a sleek design that reduces weight. I was personally really impressed with how light the reel is, which made casting and handling a breeze.

The handle design is easy to grip and will help you maintain contact and control while reeling and battling a big bass. As a whole, when a reel feels good in your hand, you know you have a winner.

These reels are powered by Oversized AMG Gear systems and Friction Free Main Shaft designs that combine to provide the ultimate in performance and durability. In addition to the machined gear systems, they also come equipped with nine-bearing systems that offer silky-smooth operation every time you cast a line.

In today’s bass fishing world, finding an angler who doesn’t use braid as their main line on a spinning reel is almost impossible. So having a spool that is braid ready is a huge plus. The SX SP reel is specifically designed to easily spool braid. Spooling up my high visibility braid for the first time was simple and easy, and I had no issues with line twists. From there, I tied on my fluorocarbon leader and was ready to go.

Once I got it out on the water, I was impressed. From wacky-rigged worms to shaky heads and drop shots, the SX SP was a smooth casting reel, and I could make accurate casts from a long distance with all three techniques.

In close quarters, SX SP allowed me to skip a worm flawless under tree limbs and next to cypress trees and laydowns.

I have hooked several smaller bass with this reel thus far and the drag system worked well with those smaller fish. The drag was smooth as the fish pulled line out with no grinding or stopping whatsoever. But I found I could also wrench these smaller fish in just as easily. I have no doubt when it comes time to hook a giant largemouth on bed in the spring or aggressive smallmouth in the summer, the drag system will work smoothly so you can land more bass.

The SX SP comes in four different sizes starting with the smaller SP10 followed by the SP20, SP30 and then the SP40 and are priced at $169.95. Look for them in your local tackle store or online beginning early next year.
