Gear Review: St. Croix Grasp II

WHAT IS IT?

St. Croix Grasp II Rods

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Available on three models (7-foot, 10-inch to 8-foot, 3-inch) in the Mojo Bass TRIGON series and two 7-foot, 10-inch models in the Legend Tournament Bass series, the GRASP II optimizes angler choice with three options: the included GRASP II pistol grip, standard palming trigger grip and a flat grip. Accommodating angler preference, specific lure choice and presentation style, each grip piece mounts with no tools needed. Every GRASP II rod includes a pouch to store unused pieces.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Large-profile swimbaits, glidebaits and umbrella rigs can deliver big results, but the toll they take on the human body can become equally large. Fact is, casting and winding the giant-tempters for long periods of time is a grueling and potentially injurious task. In 2023, St. Croix addressed these considerations by introducing the GRASP pistol grip to promote wrist-to-forearm alignment while casting, retrieving and fighting big fish. The goal was to reduce angler fatigue, minimize injury potential and equip anglers to spend more time comfortably slinging jumbo baits.

HOW MUCH?

$250 to $360

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Talk about giving new meaning to the phrase locked and loaded. St. Croix has a well-established heritage of creating high quality bass rods, but the family-owned company’s location in Park Falls, Wis., also immerses the operation in the rough and rugged musky culture. Suffice to say that tapping into a deep well of knowledge that has yielded 59 technique-specific muskie rods with the right lengths, powers and actions necessary for slinging baits up to a pound and a half easily guided St. Croix Rods crafters to build the right tools for bass anglers throwing baits of 8-plus ounces.
