Introduction to Fishing
Well, fun fact—I, unlike many of the other ladies featured here, did not have a fishing background or a grandad to teach me how to fish! I just started fishing last March when my 9-year-old son told me he wanted to go fishing. As a single mama who had never fished before, I quickly turned to YouTube University and started researching how to fish! He was pretty over it after about half an hour, but I was immediately intrigued the second I felt something bite. I was literally HOOKED. The day after I took him fishing for the first time, I went to the store and got myself my own trusty Zebco to fish with! I haven’t stopped fishing since.

Experiences and Challenges
I can’t say I’ve had many negative experiences, honestly! I’ve had a great time meeting new people and learning little tips and tricks from all types of people I meet while fishing. The fishing community has been welcoming, and I’ve enjoyed building friendships along the way.

Perceptions and Attitudes
I think there are mixed perceptions in the industry. There are people who have something to say about a woman who, in their eyes, reveals “too much.” Then there’s another perception with the women who go out and wear their hat backward like the guys. It’s interesting to see the different perspectives, but at the end of the day, we all share a love for fishing.

Support System
I am very lucky to have a close-knit group of friends who are always there to help if I have a question or want to learn something new! They are very supportive of everything I am trying to do in the fishing world, and their encouragement has helped me grow as an angler.

Representation and Visibility
I do think women are definitely being represented—much more than we ever were before! Being in a male-dominated industry, I do think quite a few factors can quickly hold women back from achieving better opportunities, but we are making progress. It’s exciting to see more female anglers stepping into leadership roles and gaining visibility in the fishing world.

Changes Over Time
There was definitely a time when any commercial or ad you saw would feature a guy and his buddies fishing. Now, we see women launching boats and driving trucks in commercials! It’s very cool to see how things have changed over time.

Equality and Inclusion
I feel like it would be really fun to have more women-dominated events, tournaments, and meet-and-greets! Creating more opportunities specifically for women could encourage greater participation and build a stronger community of female anglers.

Personal Achievements
One of my proudest moments was finally catching the carp I had been targeting! I went to a local pond day after day, studying endless videos of tips and tricks and even perfecting my own pack bait. After almost two months of sitting there and waiting, I finally hooked into one—all on my own.
I mainly fish alone, so when I put my mind to something and achieve it, it’s incredibly rewarding! Once I decide I want something, there is NO stopping me! 2025 is already bringing some amazing opportunities my way, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
I’m also honored to be an official pro staff member for Takedown Rod Holders and Whisker Warriors, and most recently, I’ve become an affiliate of Catch The Fever. It’s exciting to be part of these teams and represent brands that support anglers like me.

Fishing Style
Honestly, I would never limit myself to one style of fishing! I love the sport in every way. That’s why I’m a multi-species angler—I don’t only target one kind of fish! I mainly bank fish, but I’ll kayak fish, fish from a boat, and enjoy both saltwater and freshwater fishing.
Though freshwater is definitely more of a challenge than saltwater, I love it all. As long as I’m in, on, or around the water, I’m happy!

Advice for Aspiring Female Anglers
Just get out and do it! Don’t worry about looking foolish or not knowing everything. Absolutely don’t worry about having the “best” gear that you see everyone posting about online. Get a rod and go! Don’t be scared to fish alone and use YouTube University to your advantage! There are also a lot of online groups and Facebook communities where you can learn quite a bit. Don’t be scared to ask questions—you won’t learn if you don’t.
Talk to that old-timer you see at the fishing spots—you can learn a lot from them! If you want to turn this into a career, BELIEVE in yourself and push for yourself. There will always be judgment in any sport, but keep believing, keep pushing, and keep perfecting your craft!
