North Carolina launches “fishing trail”

Located near High Point, N.C., the Fishing Trail teaches anglers the seasonal patterns of bass. This unique fishing and teaching experience is the result of a partnership between the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, N.C. B.A.S.S. Nation, and the City of High Point. Photo Courtesy: Riley's Catch/YouTube

HIGH POINT, N. C. — North Carolina B.A.S.S. Nation Conservation Director Bill Frazier came up with a concept to help fishing enthusiasts learn more about bass fishing and increase their success rate.

Frazier wanted to give less-experienced anglers the confidence to fish various lakes while improving their fish-finding and fish-catching skills. He worked with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and several volunteers to bring about the first “fishing trail,” located on Oak Hollow Lake in High Point.

The trail program provides a detailed brochure explaining the concept, along with marked artificial habitat structures placed in the lake to attract fish with special buoys. Information is also provided on the seasonal behavior of bass and the best strategies to catch them during each season. Plans are underway for NCWRC to build additional trails on other lakes. See the Oak Hollow trail in action!
