A look inside Caymas Boats

Longtime boat builder and Hall of Famer Earl Bentz has returned to the bass boat business with the opening of his new company, Caymas Boats. His first product for bass anglers is the super sleek Caymas CX 21.

The CX 21 hull is hand-laid by artisans who have worked for Bentz on other boat brands for decades.

Here, Caymas employees work on the stringer system of the CX 21, which provides strength and rigidity to the final product.

Extra care is taken in the areas that experience the greatest stress, like the forward eye bolt.

The stringer system is then fiberglassed to the hull.

Foam is then added. There is no wood used in the construction of the CX 21.

A team of grinders works on the top cap.

All lids are pressure molded to ensure perfect consistency and fit.

These lids will all weigh the same and fit precisely.

A 59-gallon gas tank will hold plenty of fuel to allow for long runs.

The tank is perfectly positioned in the center of the boat to keep weight distributed properly.

You can see the assembly process for not only the bass boats but for the Caymas saltwater boats, as well.

Hoses and fittings are added to the fuel delivery system.

Although the company is new, most of the employees at Caymas are masters of their craft with 30-plus years of boat-building under their belts.

Controls are being added here. The CX 21 comes standard with Sea Star hydraulic steering with tilt.

Next comes the wiring.

The Caymas production facility is right at 100,000 square feet. They are currently building another 100,000-square-foot facility to expand production.

This shows the Caymas CX 21 in various stages of production.

The seats are built with rough water in mind. They are very thick and have a high back to protect your neck.

The cockpit is very roomy. Notice the insulated cooler with custom pad which doubles as a step up to the front deck.

Next to the cooler is a tool holder, which includes a measuring board. You can also see the center console between the two seats. The lid is protected with a custom pad and mandatory cup holders flank the compartment.

The CX 21 features innovative digital instrumentation, custom steering wheel and a dash big enough to accommodate the largest of fish-finding screens.

A closer look at the throttle and instrument panel.

The compartments were very well thought out. They are fully fiberglassed, include lid pistons, feature LED lighting (even the livewells), as well as stainless steel, waterproof latches.

Notice there is no carpet in the compartments. So, even if rain enters when you are retrieving a rod, there is no carpet to dry out afterward.

The huge center compartment has adjustable segmented areas for tackle storage, as well as another area to store rods.

Another two storage compartments are situated on the other side of the CX 21, which can hold more tackle, live vests, and rain gear.

Anglers can choose from 20 poly flake colors and nine gelcoat colors to personalize their CX 21.

A âSurf Turfâ padded cockpit floor is an option many anglers may like.

The forward part of the deck features an angled face for flush-mounting electronics. Notice there is even a built-in space for a GPS puck, tools … and of course, a cupholder.

Hereâs a closer look at the instrument panel on the front deck.

The Caymas trailer comes standard with a swing-tongue, custom aluminum wheels, lighted step pads and LED lights.

The rear hatch is massive, easily supporting four batteries and a charger while keeping pumps and switches within arms-reach for easy replacement.

The battery cut-off switches are completely waterproof and positioned in a spot where an angler can reach them from outside the boat.

Although not mounted yet, this switch will control the trolling motor batteries, while a separate switch will control the starting battery.

The stainless steel triangular piece of hardware you see here is a high speed pick-up, which is exclusively on Caymas boats. This feature fills your livewells once you get on plane to ensure your catch is completely cradled in water during long runs. No more stopping to check water levels and refill.
