Gear Review: Z-Man Leap Frogz

What is it?

Z-Man Leap Frogz

What sets it apart?

Z-Man brings their innovative minds to one of the most fun ways to catch a bass — the hollow-body frog. This frog will ease through the muck and mire you throw it into better than others with its V-shaped “hull.” The uniquely-shaped tummy also allows for more erratic behavior when retrieving, mimicing a real frog even more.

How do I use it?

Z-Man gives you two options — a popping frog and walking frog — and it’s up to you to find out which one triggers the strikes you want. The popping frog is more suited for open water, bobbing and gurgling and calling your friends to the boat. The sleek walking frog is ready to climb its way through the vegetation you find. The frog legs can be customized in length easily, and the double hooks are a little bit wider than other frogs.

Angler’s insight:

Fishing a frog is right up there with a buzzbait as the most fun you can have catching a fish, in my opinion. The usually violent blow up of even a small bass breaking the surface of the water, realizing in midair that you have tricked him, followed by quickly being blasted through the water back to your boat is really what it’s all about. There are a lot of great frog baits from a lot of manufacturers, what makes this one special? I think the Z-Man product stands out due to the shape of its belly allowing it to retrieve easier through vegetation and the quality of the materials used to make the frog.
