Gear Review: G. Loomis/Shimano Conquest

What is it?

G. Loomis/Shimano Conquest

What sets it apart?

The joint innovation process between two industry leaders produced a rod family that certainly brings rod building to a new level. The blanks are rolled to exact G. Loomis specs by Shimano incorporating its proprietary Spiral X and Hi-Power X process, and then hand-finished at the Loomis facility in Washington state.

How do I use it?

The over-engineered rods provide longer, more accurate casts, along with increased fish-fighting power and hook-setting leverage. The blank construction process reduces unintentional rod twist that not only increases accuracy and power, but it also makes the Conquest family of rods extremely durable. There are eight casting models and four spinning rods in the lineup.

How much?

Angler’s insight:

The rod to top all rods. The combined rod-building and innovation between G. Loomis and Shimano is hard to compare, but the love child of such a relationship is the Conquest, and it is one sweet rod. The pricetag is certainly steep, but to feel the balance and extreme sensitiity is worth every cent. Just go pick one up and hold it for a little while, and I’m confident you’ll understand.
