Gear Review: Beast Coast Hustler Jig

What is it?

Beast Coast Hustler Jig

What sets it apart?

Beast Coast makes several high-quality jigs, but this one is a real winner in a market that has not seen many like it before. The Hustler is a hybrid finesse jig designed to be a hair jig on steroids – and a high quality one at that. The goal was to build a deadly clearwater jig that made pressured fish want to bite. The result was that and more. This jig is awesome for flipping around structure, docks, rocks, weeds and just casting and dragging. And, for those who like heavy line, the size 3/0 (1/4 and 5/16 ounce) and 4/0 (3/8 ounce) hooks are beefy enough not to bend when pulling big fish out of cover.

How do I use it?

As described above, this jig can be fished anywhere. Deep clear water as a hair jig style presentation for pressured fish or flipped shallow around gnarly cover. From the website: “This is not a hair jig, this is not a finesse jig, it’s an ‘in-between’ that gives you the best of both worlds.” The head design and small profile allows it to be skipped anywhere, and the higher set cross-eye line tie prevents snags as the bait can be lifted out of heavy cover with ease. The mid-weight fiber strength weed guard is strong enough to prevent snags, but flexible enough to hook fish right where you want them.

Angler’s insight:

Available in three finesse sizes – 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 ounce – there is a size for anyone. Beast Coast designed eight colors for this jig that cover all bass, from spotted bass, to smallmouth, to largemouth. There are colors for clear water and darker profile colors for muddier water. All the colors have been tested and narrowed down to the best for this jig. Oh, and each one is hand tied, one at a time, with real marabou.
