Gear Review: Strike King Clickin Chickin

WHAT IS IT?

Strike King Clickin Chickin

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Strike King’s new entry into the plopper-style category brings some interesting design elements to this noisy, commotion-heavy style of topwater fishing. Most noticeable is the shiny metallic blade responsible for the distinctive tail spinning motion. That blade also activates the Clickin Chickin’s patent-pending MagTap rattle chamber. As the blade rotates, it attracts the chamber’s magnetic ball and tosses it around to created erratic clicking sounds by impacting the chamber walls.

HOW DO I USE IT?

This Clickin Chickin’s a good bet for attracting attention in low-visibility conditions or red-lining aggression, as you might expect from nervous fry guarders. Certainly, a promising bait for covering water and locating aggressive largemouth, the Clickin Chickin will help you draw the eyes of voracious smallmouth known for blasting topside from deep rock reefs. Offered in two sizes, a 4-inch (3/4-ounce) and a 3-inch (1/2-ounce), with 10 color options.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Strike King also offers its new hard bait in a 2.5-inch (5/16-ounce) Bitsy size that will come in handy for pressured bass that might dig the plopper vibe but aren’t ready to commit to the larger profiles. Due to its smaller dimensions, the Bitsy Chickin lacks the internal rattle system, but that works in your favor when targeting the wary ones. A good bet for tight spaces and precise casts, this downsized bait should perform well during the fall when young-of-the-year shad are small and anytime the bass are targeting tiny minnows.
