Gear Review: Sitka Dew Point Jacket

WHAT IS IT?

SITKA Dew Point Rain Jacket

WHAT SETS IT APART?

With its minimalist design the Dew Point Jacket is made using GORE-TEX three-layer, 20-denier fabric with ripstop nylon face and GORE C-KNIT backer technology for comfort and packability. Weighing 12.5 ounces, the jacket features micro-taped seams to ensure weather protection with minimal bulk, while an adjustable hem and cuffs ensure personal fit. The Dew Point Rain Jacket has zippered pockets, an Integrated Drop-Away adjustable hood and YKK Pit Zips to expel heat.

HOW DO I USE IT?

A leading brand in the hunting space, SITKA is expanding into the fishing and general outdoors markets. The Dew Point Rain Jacket should help the company make angling inroads, as the design will serve well the need for lightweight rain gear. Even casual anglers keep a full set of foul weather gear with the heavy jacket and bibs, but not every wet scenario calls for the big stuff. Maybe it’s a morning mist or a light sprinkle; in any case, a packable jacket made with angler-friendly features has its place in the lineup.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

From crowded boat storage to a bank fisherman’s backpack, a compact, durable rain jacket is invaluable for impromptu moments where you just need a little protection. I’m a big fan of jacket venting, particularly when you’ll likely find warm, muggy conditions following a shower. On those days when the rain comes and goes, the constant on/off routine burns time, and usually finds your jacket loosely bundled and tossed or tucked out of the way. SITKA’s design allows you to keep the jacket on as long as rain threatens, while offering three points of air flow — front zipper and both arm vents — to stay comfortable.
