Gear Review: Gill Xpel Tec Hoodie

WHAT IS IT?

Gill Xpel Tec Hoodie

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Gill employed its expertise in technical and lifestyle apparel to create the Xpel Tec collection, which includes the men’s and women’s versions of the new Tec Hoodie. A must-have style for warm environments, sun hoodies are the ultimate in lightweight, comfortable fishing apparel. Gill’s new offering hits the mark with a breathable fabric, boasting 50-plus UV protection with proprietary Xpel fabric technology for repelling water while preventing stains and controlling odor.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Gill’s Xpel is a plant-based technology that gives clothing a protective barrier against water, blood, oil and other soiling substances. Rather than sinking into the fabric, contaminants bead and roll off without staining or soaking. XPEL also neutralizes odors and keeps clothing fresh, even when stored wet. Xpel provides dependable protection without changing the fabric’s comfort, feel or breathability. Gill says its Xpel fabric properties remain consistent for up to 30 washes, while the treatment will remain effective for up to 50 washes. Choose from Shadow Camo or Pool Camo. Sizes: XS-4XL.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

You get a tech hoodie with water repellency in the same garment. What I like most about this hoodie is how water beads and rolls off without soaking the fabric. That’s ideal when encountering light overspray on boat runs during choppy, windy conditions, or for a rain shower too light to require wearing rain gear.

Looking at this company’s pedigree, it’s a safe bet that a solid R&D effort goes into making their apparel do what they say it does. Gill Fishing was launched in 2018, following the parent company’s many years in the competitive sailing market. The same commitment that yields dependable marine foul weather gear seems to be delivering angler-friendly apparel that ensure stain and odor-free comfort.
