Gear Review: Garmin Spy Pole

WHAT IS IT?

Garmin Spy Pole with GT360UHD

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Garmin just released 360-degree scanning with OneVü sonar allowing anglers to see a bird’s-eye view of fish and structure in every direction around the boat in 2D and 3D views and then fish without having to constantly rescan. The system includes the Spy Pole with motorized sonar control that unlocks all the features when connected to the GT360UHD transducer.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Control and configure Spy Pole with compatible Garmin chartplotters. Built-in True Motion Technology integrates with GPS to maintain the sonar’s true position so anglers can move around structure without losing track of fish locations. Add LiveScope live sonar to unlock the new 3D view on a single display, plus beam overlay in 2D mode.

Spy Pole operates separate from the trolling motor for independent command of the 360-degree sonar. Maneuverability is by foot control, rod-mounted gesture remote or through dedicated control bar on compatible charteplotters. You can also scan and store up to a football-field size of sonar imagery. Anglers can steer a LiveScope transducer and initiate scans and Spy Pole is easily mounted and dismounted to a Force or Force Pro trolling motor, or gunnel.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

The motorized sonar control enables Spy Pole to operate separately from the trolling motor. You get 360-degree views without having to turn the boat using the trolling motor. What else is impressive is integration with LiveScope onto the 360-degree scan, and you have multiple control options with foot, rod-mountable gesture remote or directly through a chartploter for seamless integration. It’s also easy to install with easy cable management.
