Gear Review: Flambeau NextGen Tackle Box

WHAT IS IT?

Flambeau NextGen Tackle Box

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Secured with a fast dial latch for secure closure, the NextGen Tackle Box offers convenient access to specific tackle with its individualized anti-migration pivot trays. Easily opened with finger grips, these trays feature multiple divided compartment layouts to accommodate lures and terminal tackle, while integrated storage space holds a 4000 Series Tuff Tainer (not included). Offered in two sizes: The large (6/0) measures 15.5 inches long x 9.3 wide x 8.6 high and includes six trays with 32 compartments. The 14x 8.7x 7.6 medium (4/0) includes four trays with 23 compartments.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Much more than a facelift, Flambeau reimagined a generational stalwart of fishing culture — the trunk style cantilever tacklebox. Built with multilevel extending tackle trays and bulk storage below, that old design had its time and served us well, but now Flambeau inverts the layout for greater efficiency with a few nifty features to elevate the improvement. Most noticeably, the NextGen Tackle Box positions the bulk storage with its extra deep box on top, so you needn’t reach below those tiered trays.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

We all did it — tipping over an old-school tacklebox was the classic chuckle-worthy accident that scattered hooks, weights, swivels and lures across the dock or johnboat deck. You’d extend those cantilever trays to reach one lure, or a single piece of terminal tackle, you’d make one wrong move and wreck the entire deal. Flambeau’s new design minimizes such tackle mishaps, while keeping everything centralized and easily accessible.
