Gear Review: Daiwa Crossfire LT Spin Combo

WHAT IS IT?

Daiwa Crossfire LT Spin Combo

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Daiwa’s original Crossfire reel debuted in 2007, with the redesigned Crossfire LT (light and tough) following a decade later. Still a key player in the affordable reel market, the new LT version was made with a lighter composite body, Daiwa’s proprietary Digigear system and improved drag performance. Now, Daiwa offers this value-heavy reel in a combo with two-piece graphite rods available in 6-foot, 6-6, and 7-foot rod lengths. Available in medium and medium-light powers, both with fast actions and lightweight cork grips.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Continuing the improvement, Daiwa lightened the Crossfire LT with its Airdrive design, which uses a carbon light body to reduce weight, while enhancing rotational efficiency and increasing durability. Elevating the reel’s performance, Daiwa’s tough Digigear features larger, digitally designed and machine-cut gears, engineered for increased strength, durability and smooth rotation. Essentially, Daiwa’s high-precision cutting process and state-of-the-art materials ensure smooth gear mesh, higher torque transmission and minimal reeling resistance. Other key features include Long Cast (LC) ABS machined aluminum spool and ATD (Advanced Tournament Drag) Type-L drag system.

HOW MUCH?

$53.99 (combo)

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Everyone starts somewhere and tackle budgets generally increase as one’s growth and commitment expand. That’s true for kids or novices of all ages, but here’s the key point: While you don’t necessarily need to go top-of-the-line, pro-level gear right off the bat, there is a definite correlation between functionally dependable tools and the ability to expand your skills. And if you’re a lifetime angler who’s just looking for a budget-friendly addition to your arsenal, Daiwa’s new combo offers a lot of bang for your buck.
