Gear Review: Bajio Roca Sunglasses

WHAT IS IT?

Bajio Roca Sunglasses

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Designed for sight fishing, the Bajio Roca comprises a modern, oversized frame that protects eyes with complete coverage, while reducing water glare and overall light intrusion with a vented design that prevents lens fogging. While many sunglasses focus on blocking yellow light, Bajio’s technology blocks 95% of blue light up to 445 nanometer (wave length). The company’s proprietary process protects the eyes, improves lens clarity, reduces blur/glare/haze and enhances color.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Available in three colors, with glass or polycarbonate lenses in six colors, Bajio’s Roca features innovative frames with vented rubber side shields, which block peripheral sunlight and promote airflow to keep the angler cool. Frames also include light-shielding sun ledges (top, bottom and side), ergo-textured vented rubber nose pads and temple tips for all-day comfort and keeper holes for cables. Built with wide, adjustable temples, these frames include internal flex hinges.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

This new company has made quite a splash, as much for sharp designs as its carbon-neutral sustainability policy. Debuting at ICAST 2021, Bajio won the 2022 Best Eyewear award for the Roca style. With 100% recyclable lenses made from sand, Bajio offers castor-based bioplastic frames and coconut husk-based frames, with R&D underway for PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) frames made from recycled water bottles as well as recycled nylon frames made from ocean trash and carpet remnants. Bajio sunglasses come in cases made of cactus leather, and they’re packaged in boxes made of recycled paper with an envelope full of recycled care cards and instructions printed with 100% natural algae-based ink.
