Gear review: Bajio Palehorse Sunglasses

WHAT IS IT?

Bajio Palehorse Sunglasses

WHAT SETS IT APART?

New for 2026, Bajio has added three brand-new styles to their lineup of incredible sunglasses. This pair is named the Palehorse after Kevin Beach’s battleship of a Freeman. The Palehorse brings style and comfort for both on and off the water. It comes in three unique colors: dark brown, black tort and green tort, pictured here. The tort colors almost act as a color shift, as they look mostly black until the sun shines on them. The Palehorse also comes in seven different lens colors with the option of glass or polycarbonate. Bajio has you covered, no matter what your lens preferences are. The lenses feature Bajio’s LAPIS technology, which blocks 90% harsh yellow light, 95% blue light and 100% UV light.

Bajio added some key features to the Palehorse frames to maximize performance. The first is the removable and foldable side sun shields which stop all light from coming in from the sides and increases visibility. It also features vented temples and ergo vented rubber nose pads. Flex hinges allow for effortless folding and durability.

HOW DO I USE IT?

When I first picked up the Palehorse glasses, the very first thing I noticed was how feather-light they were. When I put them on, it felt like I wasn’t wearing sunglasses at all. The second thing I noticed was how incredibly clear the lenses were. The large lenses combined with the side shields maximized my view and really made colors pop. The lens I went with was the violet mirror in the glass option. I chose this lens because it excels in low-light conditions, early mornings, late evenings and cloudy conditions. However, I found that even in bright conditions, this lens thrives by keeping everything a little brighter and allowing colors to pop. For me personally, I’ve found some sunglasses to be too dark unless it’s super sunny. These lenses are perfect in every situation I’ve come across so far. But the lens colors are totally up to you.

The side shields were a totally new feature to me, but while they may feel different, they definitely do their job of blocking sunlight from the sides. This is often an issue in the larger, more square-shaped frames. Blocking from the side forces all the light to come through the lenses, allowing for a clearer view. Without the light contamination, you can look deeper into the water and the world below. If you don’t end up liking them, they are very easily removed, so it’s not something to worry about.

Strategically placed vents on the temples and nose keep the pesky fog away. There’s nothing more frustrating than a foggy pair of sunglasses when you’re running down the lake. I have yet to see any sign of fogging with the Palehorse.

The Palehorse is a large fit style, but it will fit almost everyone. I have a small and narrow face, but I wanted to try the larger, square-body design. Even for their larger size, they still feel great on my face with only a little bit of movement while looking straight down or moving around a lot.
