Gear Review: AFTCO Tactical Shorts

WHAT IS IT?

AFTCO Tactical Shorts

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Premium rain jackets and bibs (including those made by AFTCO), are made of nylon shells and treated with a waterproof coating called Durable Water Repellent or DWR. The Tactical Shorts have this coating, which makes them stand out. Water beads off, which is ideal when encountering boat spray, fish splashes or any brief encounter with water. Even if they get wetter, the shorts quickly dry out. DWR also adds stain resistance from fish blood and other liquids. The Tactical Shorts also feature AFLEX 2-way stretch ripstop dobby, which means they stretch with your range of motion for all-day comfort. Inseam: 10 inches. Outseam: 21 inches. Colors: Green Digi Camo, Navy Digi Camo, Black Camo, Blue Camo, Grey Camo. Size: 30-42 waist sizes.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Deep, dual-hand pockets, cargo and plier pockets offer ample storage for lightweight gear. Wear these shorts in warm weather when you need all-day comfort in the heat, and a garment that repels water.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

I’ve worn the Tactical Shorts now for two seasons. What I really like is the DWR coating that makes them ideal for wearing around water. They are the coolest shorts I’ve ever worn, and I’ve never been soaked when wearing them in the boat or the rain. I don’t dislike cargo shorts, but the Tactical Shorts are more stylish while providing the same level of functionality. My wife has even given me the nod of approval to wear them in casual dinner outings. What could be better? I’ve got a pair of shorts I can wear just about anywhere that fit great, are lightweight and can bead off water or quickly dry.
