Gear Review: AFTCO Honcho Pants

WHAT IS IT?

AFTCO Honcho Stretch Utility Pants

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Comfortable flexibility with a durable two-way stretch fabric made of 96% nylon, 4% elastane. The pants, like many AFTCO garments, are treated in Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating that makes water bead off, along with added stain resistance. A fixed waist with hem cinch adjustment and internal drawcord provides a customizable fit. Classic fit, 32-inch inseam. Available in Elmwood or Light Gray. Sizes 28 through 40.

HOW DO I USE IT?

You get the modern fit of jeans in a lightweight pair of pants that are ideal for chores and outdoor activities. An invisible zippered thigh pocket, large front hand pockets and back pockets and a reinforced pliers pocket add technical features without overly adding bulk and weight (think cargo pants).

HOW MUCH?

$79

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

The Honcho is a sort of modern take on AFTCO’s Gamma Ray pants that I like for everyday three-season wear. What I like about the Honcho is the roomier fit for added mobility when doing “work boot” chores. AFTCO’s rep informed me that a lot of our Bassmaster pros are stoked about the Honcho for the comfort of shorts in pants, and he told me they are ditching blue jeans in favor of these pants. I’m a believer, and I plan to wear the Honchos around town, on the farm and even in the boat.
