Spain B.A.S.S. Nation Championship 2026: From Spain to the World Stage

For bass anglers across Spain, Spain B.A.S.S. Nation represents more than just a national competition— it’s a direct pathway to the dream of competing in the most prestigious bass-fishing stages in the world: the United States of America. While Spain may still be unfamiliar to many American anglers as a bass destination, the country holds a passionate and rapidly growing bass-fishing community supported by outstanding fisheries that provide exciting tournament opportunities.

On March 20–22, Spain B.A.S.S. Nation hosted the Spain B.A.S.S. Nation Championship 2026, the national qualifying event that determines the anglers who will represent Spain at the 2026 Mercury B.A.S.S. Nation Championship in the United States.

This year’s championship took place at Mequinenza Reservoir, widely known as one of the most important bass fisheries in Spain. Tournament headquarters were located at Camping Taiga Lake Caspe, a premier facility offering lodging and fishing licence management, boat rental services, launch ramps, and professional guide services for anglers traveling to Spain to target largemouth bass and other freshwater species.

Often referred to locally as the “Sea of Aragón,” Mequinenza Reservoir is one of the largest inland fisheries in the country, holding approximately 1,300 hm³ of water and extending more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) in length. In addition to largemouth bass, the reservoir supports strong populations of zander, European perch, and wels catfish, along with several cyprinid species. For Spain B.A.S.S. Nation members, Mequinenza remains one of the most iconic and respected tournament venues in the Spanish competitive scene.

This year, the championship benefited from excellent water conditions. The reservoir was at full pool following favorable rainfall and productive recent seasons, creating strong expectations for fish activity leading into the event.

A total of 30 boats competed, each consisting of one angler and one co-angler, fishing in a two-day format with a five-fish daily limit. Although fishing conditions proved challenging at times, several competitors separated themselves from the field by adapting to the prevailing pattern and targeting fish in shallow cover using jigs and spinnerbaits, with flipping presentations around structure producing key bites throughout the tournament.

After two competitive days, Jordi Martí and Alejandro Rodríguez secured the championship title with a total weight of 12.2 kilograms (27.1 pounds). Second place finished with 8.5 kilograms (18.7 pounds), followed by third place with 6 kilograms (13.2 pounds).

Despite changing conditions throughout the event, the winning team demonstrated consistency and precision by committing to shallow cover and executing effective pitching techniques that ultimately made the difference.

Their victory earns them the honor of representing Spain at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina (USA), one of the premier championship destinations in American bass fishing and an important step forward on the international competitive stage.

Events like the Spain B.A.S.S. Nation Championship continue strengthening the connection between European anglers and the global B.A.S.S. Nation community. For many Spanish competitors, this event represents more than a national title — it represents the opportunity to pursue the lifelong dream of competing at the highest level of bass fishing in the United States of America.
