Visiting the Conowingo Dam

The Susquehanna River has the 16th largest watershed of any U.S. river and provides half the freshwater inflow that enters Chesapeake Bay, just below the Conowingo Dam.

One of the main obstacles that prompted B.A.S.S. officials to cancel this week's event on the Chesapeake Bay, is the influx of flood waters on Susquehanna River.

As the water continues to rise, more and more flood gates may need to be opened at the Conowingo Dam. Not only will it increase the flow of water, tens of thousands of cubic feet per second, but it will also begin to dump tons of debris that flood waters have pushed up against the upriver side of the dam. Here's a look at the current conditions upstream and downstream of the Conowingo Dam.
