Are you looking for a better solution for organizing lures and terminal tackle? Probably so, considering how specialized lure categories continue expanding. The Plano EDGE series is worth a look, and you can see how Jeff Gustafson and Seth Feider use the system to keep organized on the Bassmaster Elite Series.

The EDGE family consists of 10 units, with four built for general storage. Specialty boxes are designed for terminal tackle, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, blade baits and jigs, and soft plastics.

“What I like is the durability of the materials,” said Gustafson. “I’ve put them to the test in rough water, dropped them, and I’ve never had anything break.” Nor should he. Heavy-duty steel pin hinges and a durable, reinforced ribbed base add up to one tough box. All EDGE Series feature a Duraview clear lid for quick identification of the interior contents.

The EDGE Flex Series 3600 and 3700 boxes are the first utility boxes to allow the user to fully customize the internal divider system. Gustafson also likes the EZ label system, allowing him to stack boxes vertically in his center storage for easy identification.

“I store a lot of my high-end baits in these boxes, and in this one my Z-Man ChatterBaits.” The EDGE Jig and Blade Bait box is designed to hold up to 70 jigs or bladed baits.

Movable rows of silicone columns grip the collar of baits to keep them in place without crushing the hair or kinking a skirt or trailer.

“I can store a lot of baits in here, and the advantage of the deep box is I can store my bigger walking baits in here, along with other sizes of topwaters.”

“I probably have over $1,000 worth of baits in here, and I don’t want any standing water in here that can compromise the finish and hardware.” The boxes feature Rustrictor, rust-preventing technology molded into the base of the boxes. A Dri-Loc watertight seal and patent-pending, water-absorbing Water Wick desiccant dividers ward off moisture.

Flex boxes feature five 4X Dividers, six 3X Dividers, nine 2X Dividers and 18 1X Dividers. Interlocking pre-cut dividers can be configured in any possible configuration. “I like this thinner box for smaller components to keep them more tightly organized.”

Another 3600 box has an assortment of jigs. The yellow part is the one-handed latch that can be easily opened and closed. The lack of protruding metal hinge latches allows boxes to be easily stacked.

“This is a unique system that uses silicone fingers to grip and protect the finishes, so they don’t get dinged up. You can store a lot of baits in these boxes.” Inside this box are baits ranging in size from 1/4- to 1-ounce. “I’m covered for any situation.”

“The hangers and dividers allow the baits to hang naturally, so the skirts don’t get balled up and tangled.” The baits also dry quickly.

“The deep box, like my crankbait box, allows me to carry more baits than any other size utility unit.” The large box eliminates the need for multiple boxes for lures in the same category.

“I’m picky about my hooks, and I carry a lot of Gamakatsu specialty hooks, so this 3600 EDGE box is perfect for keeping them organized by type and size. Every size that I can possibly need is in here, so I can upgrade hooks for every bait.”

The large box includes removable dividers and has two large side mounted handles. The setup is ideal for soft plastics and molded swimbaits. Gustafson removed the dividers to make room for more hooks.

“What I really like about this system are the boxes within a box. Before, with other boxes, rough water and waves would mix up all the weights in different compartments.”

Problem solved. Everything is double-boxed. Ten boxes-within-a-box of various sizes hold hooks and weights. “What I like about this setup is I can open this box and pick up exactly the hook I’m looking for without wasting time, having to sort through them all.”

Each box is easily removed by gripping each side of the indention with the thumb and forefinger. “If I’m fun fishing in my duck boat, I can grab the small boxes that I need, put those in my pocket or another box, and fish for the day.”

“What I like best about this box is the capacity. I probably have 80 frogs in here, and I can carry everything I own in frog fishing in this box.”

The box has Rustrictor infused bases that prevent baits from corroding. Further corrosion defense comes from Water Wick, a water-absorbing, rechargeable, desiccant divider. “The rubber and the tails don’t get melted from water in the bottom of a hot box, and the hooks don’t rust. I probably have $400 worth of frogs in here.” When closed, a Dri-Loc seal makes a water-tight barrier between the lid and the base.
