Przekurat’s high water tacklebox

Bodies of water across the country are susceptible to rising and falling water. This can create challenging conditions when the water gets high. In most cases, the bass have far more available cover and a lot more space to spread out. Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jay Przekurat has a general approach and a handful of baits to fishing high water situations.
“When the water gets high, I’m going to spend a lot of time up shallow to begin with,” said the former Dakota Lithium Bassmaster Rookie of the Year. “The type of structure in the water will determine what baits I’ll use, but it seems like there’s often times going to be more wood in the water on highland reservoirs.”
“With that said, fish will still live offshore when the water is high, so I keep that honest too,” he said.
Przekurat digs through his Nitro Boat to find a few of his favorites when faced with high water.
His boat is loaded down with Evolution Fishing boxes and bags.
Przekurat then narrows it down to a few of his favorites.
Strike King Rage Craw
“The Rage Craw is going to be a go-to for me because of how many different ways I can use it,” he said. “I can use it as a trailer of a flipping jig, swim jig or just Texas rig it to fish around cover. I really like the white color when because typically the water is going to be high during the springtime.”
Strike King 3X Baby Z-Too
“Fish do tend to suspend when the water gets high,” said Przekurat. “Anytime the water is high and rising, those fish will float around until things stabilize and that’s a great time to target them with the Z-Too.”
Strike King Ocho Worm
“The Ocho is a bait that I’m going to use when I really want to slow down and pick apart structure on the bank,” he said. “This is going to be a go-to in those clear water situations when the water is high.”
Strike King Sexy Dawg Hard Knock
“The Sexy Dawg is going to be one of the first baits I will throw early in the morning when the water is high and warm,” he said. “It’s great to throw on shallow points and other places that you can’t visibly see but the water has came up on those good structure areas.”
Strike King Tour Grade Spinnerbait
“The spinnerbait is going to play in conjunction with the Rage Craw,” said Przekurat. “I’ll lean towards the spinnerbait when the conditions are cloudy, rainy and I’m wanting more flash or if the water is dirtier.”
Strike King KVD Splash Popper
“The popper is going to be utilized when the water is clean and I’m fishing around more isolated structure,” he said. “Anytime you come to an isolated log, brush or even clump of grass, that popper is super effective because you can sit it in one place for a long time.”
