NY B.A.S.S. Nation’s ‘Take A Soldier Fishing’ event

NY B.A.S.S. Nation held its 10th annual “Take A Soldier Fishing” event  at Oneida Shores in Brewerton, NY.  Over 100 soldiers from Ft. Drum, 86 Boaters from the NY Bass Nation, and many volunteers made this possible.

A fishing pole was given out to each soldier after they registered.

While volunteers were setting up at Oneida Shores, a donation of coffee, hot chocolate, bagels and donuts was being picked up thanks to Dunkin Donuts of Brewerton.

Soldiers and boaters gathered for the paring and got ready for fishing. Bass, Walleye, Pickerel caught could be photographed and released back in the water.  Carp, Panfish, Bowfin, Perch and Bullhead could be brought into be weighed.

Valet Parking: Boaters drove down to the launch area and this group handed the boater a ticket.  Boater got into the boat with the soldiers and was launched.

At the ramps we had spotters who also made sure that plugs were in, and straps were off the boats.

A walleye that was caught on the water, photographed and released.  This was the first time this soldier went out fishing.

Patrick Carr and his soldier with a small mouth bass. Once again, this was the first time for this soldier to go fishing. She was not ready to hold the fish; however, she says she cannot wait to go again.

A group of BBQ cooks that compete various competitions donated their time and equipment.  They came in and cooked the meat.
