Hackney’s morning moves

Follow along with Greg Hackney as he changes up his tactics early Day 3 of the 2022 Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at Santee Cooper Lakes!

Coming into Day 3, Greg Hackney made it clear to reporters that he was going to make a gamble and fish an area that he hadn’t previously fished the first two days of the Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at Santee Cooper Lakes.
The scenery was much different this morning, as Hackney primarily targeted lily pads, reeds and matted vegetation.
Hackney felt as if he had fished the area that he had previously caught them in as well as he could, and the fish likely wouldn’t replenish, hence the reason he decided to make an area change on Day 3.
Another major difference this morning was the pace in which he fished. During the first two days of competition, Hackney fished a stretch that was no longer than 200 yards long as slow as he could. However, this morning he covered more water and even rotated through a variety of baits.
Alabama’s Wes Logan was fishing not too far from Hackney early on.
Despite the fact that Hackney rotated through a few different baits, he primarily kept a flipping stick in his hands.
In this area, you could take a 360-degree turn around the boat and see numerous different types of vegetation.
Close to two hours after he settled down in this area, Hackney hooks up with his first keeper of the day.
Unfortunately, it’s a small keeper.
Hackney hooks up again, but this time it’s the wrong species.
During the late part of the morning, Hackney made several small moves in this one large area.
After making a small adjustment, Hackney boats his second keeper of the morning.
