College: Winyah Bay registration

Anglers begin to file in for the registration meeting at the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Southern Regional on Winyah Bay. Patrick Walters of South Carolina is one of the local anglers to watch for this week.

Another local team, Jonathan Kelley and Max McQuaide rig up in the parking lot.

There are teams from all over the southeast here this week, including the Florida Gators.

The Carhartt and Toyota rig was parked outside and directed anglers towards the meeting.

This is the 2nd regional of the 2017 College season.

As always, there were plenty of goodies awaiting the anglers fishing this week.

The town of Georgetown is the host this week and has a table set up to welcome anglers.

This is the 3rd Bassmaster event in the last three years in Georgetown, SC.

Tournament Director Hank Weldon talks with Luke Stoner who is there representing Toyota and Carhartt.

Anglers began coming through and scooping up the product so generously brought for them.

There were new Carhartt hats waiting for the fishermen this week as well.

Austin Handley of Auburn represented his school in the Classic Bracket last year. He talked with Stoner at the Carhartt table.

They also had information about the Toyota Bonus Bucks College program, which pays anglers that are registered in the program and use a Toyota as a tow vehicle.

Berkley had plenty of Pit Bossesâ waiting for teams. Those are great baits for the type of fishing anglers are experiencing this week.

Skeeter brought some koozies to offer up to the anglers.

There is some hardware for the winners, 2nd place and 3rd place this week, but roughly 13 teams will qualify for the National Championship this week as well.

Bill Carson of Johnson Outdoors had a Humminbird Helix set up for teams to check out.

B.A.S.S. tournament officials had rules and regulations set aside for teams to read over.

The University of South Alabama is here this week and is sporting multiple teams.

Teams that already went through the line could take a seat and enjoy all the College TV shows from the 2016 season.

Then the doors were opened and dinner was served to the fishermen.

The Georgetown County Sheriffâs department cooked a meal for the participants and the county alliance brought it for anglers to enjoy.

Meanwhile more teams funneled through the registration line. Sloan Pennington of North Alabama gets his fishing license ready.

The Florida Gators are grubbing out on the provided dinner.

The final count of teams rounds out at 77 for this week on Winyah Bay.

The Georgetown cooks called this Chicken Pilau, which was like a Cajun jambalaya.

After finishing dinner, anglers were handed a map and briefing sheets with explanations on off-limits and fishable water.

Teams finished up their map study and were tuned in as Hank Weldon began to talk.

He introduced a couple speakers for the meeting.

Sel Hemingway of Georgetown County spoke to the teams and gave them a lesson on local names so they say them correctly. He also cracked a couple jokes with the anglers.

Austin Handley and Caleb Wozniak of Auburn University made the Top 4 teams in the National Championship in 2016 and were two of the participants in the Classic Bracket.

Meanwhile we also had another previous winner in the crowd. Joshua Butts of Wallace State Community College at Hanceville was a winner at the 2015 Wildcard on Lake Barkley.

John Duarte from Coastal Carolina has spent a lot of time on Winyah Bay and is one to watch this week.

Standing in the back are Hunter McKamey, Kyle Oliver and Tyler Woolcott are all Florida anglers. McKamey and Oliver were the 2014 Southern Regional Champions and Woolcott is in his second year fishing the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series.

Bill Carson of Humminbird said a couple words and told teams about the college discount program rewarding anglers for both Humminbird and Minn Kota products.

Stoner explained the Toyota Bonus Bucks program as well as Carharttâs awesome video opportunity that will reward a lucky winner with a trip to fish with Lee brothers on the Elite Series.
