Locking through on Day 1 at the Big O

A rare look at the locking process underway on Lake Okeechobee.

It’s Feb. 1, 2024 at 3 p.m., the official check-in time for Flight 1 of the St. Croix Bassmaster Open at Lake Okeechobee presented by SEVIIN.
This is Lock S-310, also known as the Clewiston Lock. The lock is in operation because the lake is at the 16-foot water level.
The lock connects the Rim Canal on the main lake to the canal that extends to Roland Martin’s Marina, site of the weigh-in.
It takes about 18 minutes of the lock to cycle as it loads boats and raises and lowers the water level.
In this gallery you’ll see two lock cycles and the boats idling to the marina.
