Russ Lane joins Hawgtech

Russ Lane will be instrumental in designing new products for the reel accessory manufacturer.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Hawgtech has named Prattville, Ala.-based Bassmaster Elite Series pro Russ Lane to endorse its line of premium fishing reel accessories.

Hawgtech, which is based in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is primarily known for its high-end, aftermarket Hawg Handle reel handles made of carbon fiber material, with some models being equipped with premium cork knobs. Hawgtech also markets ceramic bearings to upgrade reel performance, cork Hawg Knobs and other premium reel accessories.

Mike Slipy, co-owner of Hawgtech, said that Lane became the obvious choice for the company to expand its market visibility because of his use of the product and his analytical approach to his own fishing and his equipment.

“We’ve been getting to know Russ for about a year now, and his methodologies have a strong hint of engineering,” said Slipy. “Being an engineer myself, that impressed me, and I knew he was going to be a good fit for us.”

However, it wasn’t just his knowledge that the company was drawn to. The owners also enjoyed him as a person and an angler.

“Russ is a great guy, and has proved himself to be a tremendous angler,” Slipy said. “He is going to be a great spokesperson for us, and we are excited to have him representing us.”

“The Hawgtech reel handles have made a huge difference in my fishing,” said Lane. “They help in lightening and balancing my rods and reels, which helps me fish harder all day long. The different sizes also help me tailor my equipment to different techniques, which makes me more effective as an angler.”

The five-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier also echoed Slipy’s thoughts on his relationship with the principals of the company.

“Mike and Robert (Perez, co-owner of Hawgtech) are guys that I have truly grown to appreciate as I’ve gotten to know them over the past year,” he said. “They are great guys, with minds that come up with ways to improve fishing for everyone, and I’m proud to endorse and use their products.”

Lane will be instrumental in working with the company on new products going forward.
