Each year that Rick Clunn qualifies for the Bassmaster Classic, he is making history. He has appeared in more Classics than any angler and along the way he has scored four wins, another Classic record. In those four wins are the only back-to-back wins, his 1976 and 1977 victories. Clunn's Classic record is the stuff legends are made of, and each year offers him a host of chances at more records.
The 2009 Bassmaster Classic starts tomorrow. Someone will be a legend by Sunday afternoon and someone else might be a goat, depending on how things go.
Tomorrow's the first day of competition. I'm ready to get started. I'm doing Mike & Mike in the Morning and then it'll be time go fishing. I'm ready to get this thing underway.

After more than a week of early practice in December, three official practice days last week, and a final tune-up on the water Wednesday, you'd think this year's Bassmaster Classic qualifiers would have learned every secret the Red River holds.
Bryan Schmidt is fishing his first Bassmaster Classic. He qualified for the Classic by winning the BASS Federation Nation Championship. He is from Olney, Texas. About 3,500 people live there. Many more people will attend the weigh-ins for the Bassmaster Classic than live in his hometown. You would guess that nerves are running high through Bryan's whole body this week. You would guess right.
