Nation: Explore La Crosse, Wis.

La Crosse, Wis., is a city built on the Mississippi River, surrounded by bluffs and unique terrain for an adventure. There’s also more than just largemouth bass swimming in these waters.

Take a road trip up the Great River Road for this weekend’s tournament to discover new sites and historical places. The Great River Road is the longest and oldest National Scenic Byway in the country, and one of the stops is in La Crosse at Grandad Bluff.

Grandad Bluff steadily gains popularity each year because from the top you can see three states. There’s a family-friendly park and easy hiking trails to take in the beautiful landscape. Downtown La Crosse and Grandad Bluff are connected through the Hixon Forest where you’ll find miles of multiuse trails that run through wooded bluffs.

If you’ve made plans to be at the tournament, you’ll definitely want to make a pit stop and see this “most scenic view” in the state.

Grandad Bluff is just one of many neat places to explore. Perrot State Park and the Goose Island County Park & Campground are on the top of the adventure list. Each offers gorgeous views of the Mississippi River, fishing opportunities, paddling, observing wildlife and more.

Now, we know wrangling in a couple largemouth is exciting, but so is targeting different species. There are guided fishing tours along the Mississippi to catch trout, pike, walleye or perch. And fishing is a year-round adventure in the dairy state.
