Elite Series angler Mike McClelland’s Day 1 weight at the Plano Bassmaster Elite at the Mississippi River presented by Favorite Fishing has been disqualified. McClelland was notified Thursday evening by telephone, and has released the following statement via his Facebook profile:
“As a member of the B.A.S.S. advisory I am glad to see the Marshal program is working.
Got caught up in the moment today trying to lock down from pool 7 before a barge and made a bone head mistake. After realizing I had plenty of time to get to the lock ahead of the barge, I stopped on the Minnesota side of the river just up from the lock and culled a bass, never even thinking about where the state line was. After weigh-in I received a call from B.A.S.S. stating that my Marshal thought I had unintentionally culled a fish in Minnesota. Big zero today.
