Lester joins Mud Hole Custom Tackle

Bassmaster Elite Series rookie Brandon Lester has signed with Mud Hole Custom Tackle.

OVIEDO, Fla. — Bassmaster Elite Series rookie Brandon Lester has signed with Mud Hole Custom Tackle.

While the majority of pros on the Bassmaster circuit have sizable endorsements and unlimited finished tackle given to them, Lester is finding pure satisfaction as a do-it-yourself custom rod builder.

“I’ve accumulated more than 100 fishing rods from both big and small rod companies over the years,” said Lester. “I own a flipping stick from one brand, a cranking rod from one company, and a jig rod from another rod company. You learn that not every company makes the perfect rod for each technique. I’m excited about Mud Hole Custom Tackle because they’ve taught me how to build my own rods to exact specifications, and shown me how enjoyable it is.”

During the recent Bassmaster Classic Outdoor Expo, Brandon was amazed at the number of people at Mud Hole Custom Tackle’s exhibit, interested in the concept of DIY rod building, as he gave out Mud Hole’s tackle catalog and rod building DVD.

“It’s taken on a life of its own,” he said. “Custom rod building and tackle crafting has such a broad appeal because people of all ages and fishing abilities can enjoy it. It’s a great way to bring families together. I spoke with a number of families that came by the booth, several of whom have taken Mud Hole’s rod building classes offered annually across the United States.”

Lester laughed about his own winter activities at his home in Fayetteville, Tenn.

“With each passing Arctic system of ice and snowstorms that prevented me from practicing on the water, I spent valuable time crafting the rods. It’s fun! I’ve designed more than a dozen I’ll be using this year on the tour and, frankly, I’m proud of each one I’ve built.”

“Brandon has a very engaging personality,” said Tom McNamara, Mud Hole president, “and he loves talking with other anglers — novices to pros — about the attributes and advantages of crafting their own rods. It’s just one of the reasons Mud Hole will be his primary sponsor on the Elite Series. We’re excited about the opportunity this partnership represents.”
