Gear Review: Jackall Ganterel

WHAT IS IT?

Jackall Ganterel

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The Jackall Ganterel and the smaller Ganterel Jr. have double-jointed bodies that create unique swimming motions. During the retrieve, this design gives each bait an intriguing S-shaped pattern that arouses interest and draws fish closer. Strategically, anglers often need to push an interested fish over the edge, and Jackall gave the Ganterel a slick move that’ll do just that. When twitched, these baits quickly reverse course, spin 180 and end up staring any followers face-to-face.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The full-size Gantarel measures 6 inches and weighs 2 1/2 ounces, while the Gantarel Jr. goes 5 inches and 1 1/2 ounces. Both baits include molded extended pectoral fins for greater stability and a 3-foot diving range. A swiveling line tie reduces line twists while a chin hanger holds additional weight for a slow-sinking presentation. Also, Jackall enhances the appeal by equipping each bait with two feathered trebles and molding an eye into the tail for an optional trailer hook.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

During much of the warm season, bass fill their bellies largely with panfish. From bluegill to shellcracker to crappie, those chunky, hand-sized meals offer a convenient, high-calorie forage that don’t require a lot of energy burning effort.

Jackall’s Ganterel and Ganteral Jr. do a good job of mimicking a profile and pace that big bass have learned to associate with seasonal efficiency. Among the many applications for this bait, summer rains that flush lots of forage out of sloughs, bayous and marsh drains could offer lights-out potential for such baits.
