Cullman High anglers honoring late teammate

The Cullman High School Bass Team will be holding a pond tournament in memory of late teammate Jackson Lambert.

Cullman, Ala.—The Cullman High School bass fishing team is inviting anglers to fish in a benefit pond tournament to honor a late teammate.

Anglers of all ages are invited to compete in the Jackson Lambert Memorial Pond Tournament from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 3. The blast-off and weigh-in will be at the Cullman High School front parking lot. The Cullman bass team is hosting this fundraiser for a scholarship in honor of Jackson Lambert, a 16-year-old Cullman bass team member who died in a shooting accident Oct. 23, 2017 at his home.

Teammate Bradley Hill and Lambert started fishing ponds together when they became friends in the sixth grade. Hill described his friend as a good angler and teammate. “He was probably one of the best guys you will ever meet,” Hill said.

When Cullman’s high school principal suggested establishing a scholarship in honor of Lambert, the bass team members asked their coach, Kyle Morris, about holding a fundraiser tournament for the scholarship. The bass team eventually decided to host a pond tournament to honor Lambert’s passion for fishing. The team event allows the competitors to weigh in three bass caught from any lake or pond.

The fundraiser will pay out 50 percent of the entry fees to the winning two-person team and the other 50 percent will fund the scholarship. The bass team has already raised some funds for the scholarship through sales of special sweatshirts honoring Lambert made by Morris’ wife Ashley, who runs a clothing boutique.
