Mistakes anglers make fishing a chatterbait

Though many consider the bladed jig primarily a grass lure, Talley uses it around all types of structure. Photo by Seigo Saito

The bladed jig - often referred to generically as a vibrating jig or by the brand name ChatterBait — is one of those lures that anyone can use to catch bass. Throw it out, wind it in and wait for a bass to blast it. But it’s also one of those lures that will catch you a lot more fish when you take the time to learn its full capabilities.

That’s exactly what Bassmaster Elite Series pro Frank Talley did and how he became one of the best bladed jig anglers on the circuit. In 2020, he won $174,000 in nine events and says the bladed jig accounted for his success in eight of them.
