Junk fishing with a purpose

Nonmusical types may dismiss the notion of a “jam session” as the undisciplined indulgence of creative whim. Jazz greats like Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane would have disagreed.

Bass fishing’s equivalent is called junk fishing. It may look like a disorganized ride of randomness — and at times, it is — but there’s often a bigger picture. Some of it is reactionary; some intentional. Either way, a diverse medley of baits and a broad spectrum of targets and tactics comprise the formula for success.
