A northern take on southern spotted bass

Spotted bass have long been known for their tempestuous demeanor. One moment they’ll be feeding aggressively. Then the next, they’ll be entranced in a zombie-like state of disinterest.

Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson, a Bassmaster Classic Champion from Canada, and Chris Groh, a pro from Illinois, are Northern anglers who never had access to spotted bass before they began competing down South. They’ve had to figure them out on the job — and their experience with smallmouth bass has helped them shorten the learning curve.
