Gear Review: Zoom Uni Toad

WHAT IS IT?

Zoom Uni Toad

WHAT SETS IT APART?

There’s really no telling how many bass have fell a victim to the legendary Zoom Horny Toad, and years from now, we will likely be saying the same thing about the new Zoom Uni Toad. Built around a similar, yet more slender body style to the original Horny Toad, the Uni Toad has a hard thumping boot tail that produces a much different noise than other baits in the same class.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The Uni Toad excels in the some of the same situations as the Horny Toad when fished as a topwater around heavy cover, but it will also serve as a great choice in a variety of other situations. Considering its baitfish profile, the Uni Toad is also effective when fished in open water for schooling fish or even subsurface on a jighead. Also, don’t overlook the Uni Toad as a trailer on the back of a swim jig. Available in six proven colors.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

I can still remember my first time throwing the original Zoom Horny Toad when I was a young buck on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. I fell in love with the explosive blow ups and still being able to set the hook with vengeance, unlike throwing most treble hook topwaters.

The only problem with the Horny Toad is that it only served small purpose in my arsenal of lures. It excels by itself on an EWG style hook and as a trailer on a buzzbait. However, the one thing that sticks out to me about the Zoom Uni Toad is that it can be used in the same situations as the Horny Toad and many more.

Rigged weightless on a Texas rig, the Uni Toad is a great lure to cover water in the thickest of cover. By simply winding the bait through grass, lily pads and other thick cover, the Uni Toad induces monster blow ups, but the bait can also be utilized as a trailer on a swim jig, vibrating jig or a buzzbait.
