Gear Review: Z-Man Mini Max

WHAT IS IT?

Z-Man ChatterBait Mini Max

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The very reason bladed jigs are so popular can, at times, become their downfall. This tantalizing, vibrating presentation tempts fish in many scenarios, but this popularity can lead to a certain conditioning that makes fish less inclined to bite. That premise led Z-Man to create the ChatterBait Mini Max, a diminutive version of the original design, which produces a more subtle sound and vibration. The result: A similar look with a different frequency to match the sound and profile of smaller baitfish.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Sporting a thumbnail-sized stainless hex-shaped ChatterBlade with Z-Man’s patented ChatterBait direct head-to-blade connection, the ChatterBait Mini Max comes dressed with a wire-tied silicon skirt in eight colors. Dual molded conical keeper barbs hold trailers in place, and a premium heavy-duty 2/0 black nickel hook is strong enough to stand up to big fish. Available in 1/4-, 3/8- and 1/2-ounce sizes.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

The ability to wind this bait as fast as you want without worry of it blowing out opens up the range of options for this proven presentation. From working shallow grass targeting a shad spawn or tracing heavily-fished docks or tempting shallow smallmouth in clear water situations, this scaled-down ChatterBait offers a lot of potential, as a primary bait or a follow-up tactic for fishing behind other anglers.
