Gear Review: Shimano Macbeth Crankbaits

WHAT IS IT?

Shimano Macbeth Crankbaits

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Shimano is one of the longest lasting, trusted names in the sport of bass fishing and for very good reason. Their newly released hard baits have created quite the stir in the fishing industry over the last few months. At first glance the new Shimano Macbeth crankbaits favor the looks of the old school balsa squarebills that go for large sums of money online, and believe it or not, they feature a lot of the same qualities that make those old school baits so special, mixed with some new school features.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The Macbeth crankbaits feature a one-piece internal molded weight within the body of the lure, allowing the bait to be cast with ease and deflect off cover just like a balsa bait. This feature also provides the bait with high buoyancy, making the Macbeth Crankbaits a great choice to fish around laydowns and any other kind of hard cover. Available in a variety of colors, the Macbeth series is available in six different sizes that cover a variety of sizes as well as diving depths – Tiny (39), Original (63), Big (75), Flat, 50 and 50s (shallow).

HOW MUCH?

$9.99 – $11.99

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

A squarebill crankbait, and especially a balsa squarebill crankbait, has always been a go-getter and always will be. With that said, balsa wood baits tend to be less durable than more modern, hard plastic baits. Shimano’s Macbeth lineup of crankbaits perfectly matches the most popular styles of old school crankbaits, but it incorporates the newest technology to make them more durable, have better action and deflect off cover even better.
