Gear Review: Rebel P71 Pop-R

WHAT IS IT?

Rebel P71 Pop-R

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The Rebel P71 Pop-R brings back the same attributes of the old-school P70 that has previously been discontinued. Coming in a 3 1/8 inches and weighing 9/16 ounce, the P71 is the perfect size and weight to roll cast at targets where big bass lurk. Anglers have the ability to fish the P71 with a typical chugging action or walking action alike.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Although topwater fishing is most widely associated with postspawn, summertime fishing, a popper style topwater can produce really big bites in the springtime. The P71 can be fished in a variety of different ways, but it’s castability makes it a great topwater to throw around targets like laydowns, grass lines, overhanging trees and around docks. This large profile popper features a large front treble hook for better hookups, and a rear feathered treble hook for added attraction. Available in six colors.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

A Pop-R has always been a great bait to get a big bite, but the smaller versions of the bait are extremely hard to cast. Casting the P71 is no problem whatsoever. Naturally the bigger profile of this bait provides more appeal to better-than-average size fish, but having high quality Gamakatsu treble hooks allows you as the angler to put those fish in the boat.
