Gear Review: Z-Man CrossEye Jig

What is it?

Z-Man CrossEye Jigs

What sets it apart?

Designed by Bassmaster Elite Series pro David Walker, Z-Man’s new jig family includes the Flipping Jig, which features a head design that performs flawlessly around all types of shallow-water cover and comes through the thickest cover easier than traditional large-hooked jigs. The compact, streamlined Power Finesse Jigs are ideal for casting, pitching, skipping and swimming. Both feature durable, color-matched head paint schemes and a unique cross eyes look intended to make fish do a double take.

How do I use it?

CrossEyeZ Flipping Jigs are built around heavy-duty, 4/0 VMC flipping hooks that Walker handpicked for the sturdiness he requires. Other features include wire trailer keepers and copper wire-tied 100 percent silicone skirts. The Flipping jigs are available in 3/8-, 1/2- and 5/8-ounce weights and eight color patterns. Available in 1/4- and 3/8-ounce weights, with eight colors, the Power Finesse Jigs are built around small, but powerful, 2/0 Mustad UltraPoint flipping hooks and include hand-tied 100 percent silicone skirts.

Angler’s insight:

David Walker’s a well-known jig fanatic, so his perspective no doubt guided ZMan in the right direction. No matter your level of expertise and experience, you’ll benefit from well-designed jigs; whether you’re flipping into the heart of a big laydown or tempting big, finicky fish on pressured waters, the Cross EyeZ baits look fit for the task. Walker notes that, while most finesse jigs comprise “finesse” components, his new Power Finesse Jig is beefy enough to manage big fish, yet compact enough to coax stubborn fish out of pressured or clear-water scenarios, without reaching for the spinning rod.
