Gear Review: Yeti Hopper Flip 12

What is it?

Yeti Hopper Flip 12

What sets it apart?

Yeti expands on its original Hopper with a durable, cube-shaped soft cooler boasting even greater portability and a wide-mouth, flip-top design for easy access on the go. Like its size 20, 30 and 40 teammates, the Flip 12 features a leakproof HydroLok Zipper, puncture resistant DryHide Shell and up to an inch of ColdCell Insulation. A heavy-duty EVA foam bottom and RF-welded seams ensure waterproof construction that will stand up to the rigors of active use, while retaining ice for days.

How do I use it?

Double-stitched handles make the Flip 12 easy to load/unload, while the durable shoulder strap with ample padding keeps it comfy during lengthy transport. Yeti obviously understands a sportsman’s inherent need to accessorize with practical tools, as evidenced by the HitchPoint Grid. This handy loop system built into the cooler’s front and back holds the low-profile, corrosion-resistant Molle Bottle Opener, the Molle Zinger (retractable tool holder) or the water-resistant SideKick Gear Case (good for securing valuables.)

Angler’s insight:

Certainly an option for small boaters lacking built-in coolers, but I see Hopper Flip 12 also being a real gem for the paddle sports crowd. Catching bass from canoes, kayaks and even stand-up paddle boards is thirsty business, so a lightweight cooler will keep keep hydration handy. And don’t forget bank fishing. Walking the local pond or hiking to a nice little stream bend is a great way to introduce young anglers to the sport and carrying their favorite beverages and snacks accents the experience.
