Gear Review: Rapala Scatter Rap Crank

What is it?

Rapala Scatter Rap Crank

What does it do?

The Scatter Rap has a unique, side-to-side hunting action, and is now available in a new size.

What sets it apart?

The Scatter Rap concept was born out of the evading tactics of baitfish when being pursued by predators. The erratic and evasive action triggers strikes from wary bass as it covers water, not necessarily in depth, but in a wide sweeping (hunting) action. It’s made of balsa with a custom Scatter Lip that mimics vulnerable baitfish. It’s now available in a new 07 size — 2 3/4 inches — that is slightly larger than the original Scatter Rap Crank.

How do I use it?

The great thing about this lure is it comes ready to fish. It can be cast a long distance, is nimble, agile and responsive. Toss it out there and drag it back. It is available in 18 killer colors, and 12 additional colors that were designed by Mike Iaconelli.

Editor insight:

Like all Rapalas, these things flat-out catch fish. The unique lip design forces the bait to roll out during the retrieve in a very attractive “hunting” action that bass can’t say ‘no’ to. The Scatter Rap will Hunt For Food!
