Gear Review: Mustang Survival MIT 150

WHAT IS IT?

Mustang Survival MIT 150

WHAT SETS IT APART?

New for spring 2022, the Mustang Survival MIT 150 Convertible PFD expands the Membrane Inflatable Technology (MIT) line with its highest buoyancy vest. Offering enhanced security, the MIT 150 eliminates accidental inflations and puts the control in the angler’s hands. A key feature is this PFD’s 38 pounds of buoyancy, when inflated. Anglers fishing in layered clothing, heavy rain gear and chunky boots will appreciate this greater flotation, as will anyone fishing big waters where rescue may be hours away.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Switch the MIT 150 between automatic and manual-only inflation by easily swapping the included inflator caps. Made for a lightweight, flexible fit, the vest features high tenacity nylon face fabric for a soft, flexible feel while maintaining durability. A zippered hip pocket is designed to carry the converter cap, while an inflator inspection window with easy access flap allows for quick status check. The MIT 150 includes a D-ring for the engine cutoff switch, while the single-fold design facilitates packing.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

The MIT150’s convertible design gives it broad appeal to a diversity of anglers. Kayakers who may be in and out of the water will appreciate the manual function, while boaters will feel secure with the automatic inflation option. Across the board, the ability to switch from automatic to manual inflation offers convenience and security. Anglers with the ability to make their own determination have that option, while children or those with physical limitations can have a parent, guardian or responsible fishing partner make the appropriate adjustment.
