WHAT IS IT?

Lew’s Hypermag Spinning Reel

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Expanding its proven HyperMag family of reels, Lew’s recently debuted its HyperMag Speed Spin — a performance-driven reel made with the extreme demands of competitive fishing in mind. With a lightweight magnesium body and strong magnesium skeletal rotor with aluminum bail wire, this reel contains a proprietary forged main gear and a premium 11 stainless steel bearing system. The 200 and 300 size HyperMag Speed Spin reels weigh in at 7.2 and 7.6 ounces, respectively, making this one of the lightest high-performance spinning reels available.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The 200 size HyperMag Speed Spin gathers 32 inches per turn while the 300 takes up 34 inches. Both models have a 6.2:1 gear ratio and feature a lightweight anodized knurled aluminum spool, smooth sealed carbon multi-disc drag system, machined aluminum handle with Winn Dri-Tac knob and Lew’s proprietary Speed Lube for smooth, uninterrupted performance in a broad range of weather conditions.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Don’t let the “fairy wand” or “sissy stick” sneers fool you; spinning tackle has not only a place but a definite purpose in the serious angler’s arsenal. Sure, there are times when tempting lethargic fish yields a lackluster fight, but ask those who’ve locked horns with bruiser smallies during the peak of their feeding if it’s anything but a slugfest. Such battles call for a sturdy reel that won’t back down from the kickers or any bass species. It looks like Lew’s created a tool fit for the task.
